8 Ways to Make Money Online

If you’re like me, you’ve seen a huge uptick of people raking in cash through an online business. 💸When everything in our society started shifting in 2020, a lot of people began searching for an additional income because either

A) they were laid off

B) they had more time on their hands or

C) their traditional income source really wasn’t cutting it anymore.

I was sort of a mix. I was teaching when the pandemic hit and I also moonlighted as a bartender. Both of those closed down for a time, so I had a lot of time at home on the couch, wondering when I’d be back to work. I knew that this extra time on my hands could either lead to a lot of Netflix and weight gain, or I could look for ways to level up in life. 🤩

I started hearing about different ways to make an online income but they all seemed somewhat paltry. I didn’t really want to walk dogs for a few bucks, didn’t have the skills (or creativity) to be a graphic designer, didn’t have the personality to be an influencer. But I knew the opportunities were RIFE and I set out to find the one that would work for me.

Let’s get into the things I’ve learned in my 5 years of pursuing an additional income via my internet connection.

1) Copywriting

One day I simply googled “What are ways to make money online” and the one I hadn’t heard of was Copywriting. It mentioned if you have a “knack for words”.... and you can go ahead and ask any of my friends how often I nerd out about a new word I learned, connections between languages, or bring larger than life words into conversation. I was working as a teacher at the time and I saw this interview about a teacher-turned-copywriter - and it all made sense. Linguistics fascinates me! 📚🤓

So when I heard about copywriting, it made sense: it’s all about choosing the right words to sell a product to an audience. The best part is you don't have to be a salesperson or even feel like you’re trying to trick people into buying. Your job is simply highlighting the reasons why the product is the PERFECT buy for the PERFECT audience. You’re essentially solving people’s problems by presenting them with a solution.

It’s really rewarding work and if you have any interest in learning fascinating words every day, it might be a great choice for you. 2) Print on Demand

I went down the Youtube Rabbit Hole of making money online. Once you start searching there, it’s amazing how many new videos will show up in your feed - so many people are successful online and have an amazing story to tell! I started seeing Print on Demand services; this is where you create cute phrases and images, pair them with a coffee thermos or a comfy sweatshirt, and people buy! This appealed to me because I’m an avid shopper of these types of products. They are great conversation starters and make great gifts! You can use a website like Printful to upload your images, link it to your store on Shopify or Etsy, and when an order comes through, your item is “printed on demand” and shipped to your customer! Happy customer, happy you!

3) Fiverr.com

This is a huge freelance website with endless possibilities. What do you like to do: type, graphic design, transcribe, assist, schedule?….it’s all there. A good starting place for a beginner is to become a Virtual Assistant or VA. You would be hired by an entrepreneur or company to help them complete some basic tasks which free up time for the business to be more productive. This is a great way to practice communicating online, completing tasks, creating a reputation, building confidence, and making a side income. Even better, if you’re just looking for quick cash, there are also jobs on there that are “one-time” tasks. So if you have an empty weekend, you can help complete a quick job, get paid, and not be on the line for anymore work – until you’re ready for it.

4) Publishing Ebooks

This is another fun one for creatives out there - but also totally doable if you don’t have a creative bone in your body. With the help of AI it is really easy to outline a whole ebook and fill it in with your finishing touch. Ebooks that are really good sellers include self-help task learning such as gardening, crocheting, coding, potty-training, point hacking, the list goes on and on. This is a great way to choose a topic you’re passionate about and share your knowledge. Or if you’re interested in a new topic, you can do your diligent research, write your ebook, publish it and get paid! Uploading it to kdp.amazon.com makes fulfillment of your orders a cinch. ✅

5) Flipping furniture

Another amazing venture I’ve come across is how much money people can make selling used furniture! The truth is, when people are ready to get old furniture out of their house, they’re willing to practically GIVE it away to someone who wants to remove their problem. So all you have to do is go pick it up, give it a good clean and polish, and relist it online.

You can get a couch off someone for $100, $20, or sometimes FREE and turn around and list it for $300, $400, or even $500 if you get it in front of the right audience. I even heard of a guy who became so successful at this, that he had to rent a storage unit to manage his inventory. This became an even bigger leg up for his business, because if people would come to pick up a couch they saw online, but didn’t end up liking it, he had 10 more he could show them and lock in the sale. Is this something you could see yourself doing on the weekends?

7) Get businesses out of Spam

A copywriting coach I follow teaches a method of getting business’s emails out of the spam inbox, and collecting a check for $1000-$3000 for this service. Sean Ferres is a BOSS in the copywriting space; he’s always coming up with brilliant new ways to get clients and build your business. This method is just one additional way you can pitch a new service to a client, which is probably a service that they’ve never been offered before. And if you impress them with this simple task, you can even go ahead and upsell a copywriting add on!

Sean Ferres teaches all these skills in his Youtube page where he drops absolute GEM lessons all for free. I bet you never heard of this money making opportunity before! It requires a bit of learning how to manage email settings, but the important thing to remember is that learning new skills is going to be your key to making more money online.

8) Affiliate marketing

As a bonus to you for making it to the end of my blog post, I saved the best for last! Affiliate marketing is the #1 way for beginners to create an online income that will grow with time and become more and more passive. And who doesn’t want passive income?? This means that while you’re actively NOT working on your business, it’s still making sales for you, and you can wake up to $100s in your account each and every morning.
